Burns Lake Bike Park and Boer Mountain Recreation Site
In 2006, Burns Lake Community Forest Ltd. purchased a 160 acre parcel of land on Boer Mountain Road north of the Village of Burns Lake for the purpose of developing a mountain bike park. This property has been leased to the Burns Lake Mountain Biking Association (BLMBA), which began developing the property in the fall of 2006 to develop the
Burns Lake Bike Park. With the assistance of Jay Hoots and representatives from the International Mountain Biking Association, a skills area was started, two downhill runs were designed and constructed, and approximately 15 kilometers of single-track trail was laid out.
Jay Hoots returned in June of 2007 to design and supervise construction of a Rotary sponsored skills park on the same property. This park hosts a variety of features, including ladders, teeter-totters, drops, log rides, dirt jumps, and a pump track which will challenge riders of all skill levels. Construction of the single track trail on the park was completed between 2007 and 2009. More cross-country and downhill trails are scheduled for construction on Crown Land adjacent to the park in the coming years. World renowned trail design company
Gravity Logic spent the summer of 2009 constructing new downhill trail from the top of Boer Mountain.
Boer Mountain Recreation Site is a ~4000 hectare area managed by Burns Lake Mountain Biking Association under the Recreation Sites and Trails Branch of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. The site features multi-use trails, with some trails having a mountain bike emphasis. Kager Lake features beginner to intermediate trails, while Boer Mountain hosts intermediate to difficult downhill trails. All skill levels are covered, and all guarantee a fun ride! Kager Lake has walk-in camping sites, as well as campsites near the parking area. Plans for a car-camping area are in the works for the summer of 2011.
